Coffee Expands to Niche Markets in 2017

Sales at coffee houses hit $21.6 billion in 2016, but retail products and ready-to-drink coffee offers stiff competition, according to Mintel. Nitro coffee, produced by adding nitrogen to cold brewed coffee, had a breakout year, hitting the mainstream market after being adopted by Starbucks in select stores. More companies, such as Califia Farms, plan to introduce nitro products in the coming year.
